Canada Participates in Largest Military Exercise in Western Europe This Year

(CRC)—Between April 13-29, 49 ships from various nations as well as 40 aircraft will be taking part in NATO’s Joint Warrior exercise off the coast of Scotland. The military exercise which also involves land troops is meant to create a military force capable of being deployed anywhere in the world at five days notice. 11 nations and nearly 13000 military personnel are involved.

“Exercise Joint Warrior sets the stage for a broad range of evolving crisis and conflict scenarios that could be realistically experienced by our sailors and aircrew in future operations,” said Vice-Admiral Paul Maddison, Commander Royal Canadian Navy.

Xinhua News Agency reports that more than 900 sailors and airmen of the Canadian Armed Forces have departed on Tuesday April 2 on “Canada’s warships Preserver, Iroquois, and St. John’s from the port city of Halifax accompanied by Air Force personnel and aircraft including two CH-124 Sea King helicopters. In addition, two CP-140 Aurora aircraft will join the ships upon their arrival in Britain.”
The participating countries are: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom, and USA. [GG]
