EIRNS —The BRICS are starting to work with Greece. The head of the China Pacific Construction Group (CPCG), the same company that is constructing the Nicaragua Interoceanic Grand Canal, announced his company’s intention to invest in infrastructure in Greece and other countries of the Balkans.

In an interview with the Financial Times Yan Jiehe, founder of CPCG said, "I will soon go to Eastern Europe; F.Y.R.O.M. [Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia], Albania and Greece. I want to invest in infrastructure there and intend to buy construction companies." He also said that he was not deterred by the debt crisis in Greece and if Greece left the Euro-zone it would not bother him.

It should be noted that last year the Chinese engineering firm Gezhouba Group completed a feasibility study on the Danube-Morava-Vardar-Axios Aegean canal for the Serbian government. That canal would pass through the Axios River which is in Greece and flows into the Mediterranean just west of Greece’s second largest port, Thessaloniki.
