Querétaro Technological Institute of Mexico Hosts BRICS Conference
17 October 2023
EIRNS—On Oct. 13, Prof. Javier Armando of the Querétaro Technological Institute hosted a Zoom conference on the BRICS, with invited speakers Ruben Guzzetti of Argentina and Carolina Dominguez of the LaRouche movement in Mexico. About 80 people attended in all, including some from other countries. Prof. Javier Armando opened the conference with a brief overview of the collapse of the global financial system emphasizing that these issues should be discussed in the universities. Ruben Guzzetti, director of the Argentine Institute of Geopolitical Studies (IADEG), discussed the international situation in the context of the creation of the BRICS, and the type of necessary collaboration the BRICS represent today. He also touched on the strategic importance of Argentina’s upcoming presidential elections on Oct. 22, and how important it is that the region join the BRICS. Following the presentations, the participants asked several questions, including: What are the implications of any country joining the BRICS? Do the BRICS nations support or have trade with other countries? What are the implications of Saudi Arabia and Iran joining the BRICS? Following this, we presented the "Emergency Program To Save Argentina" (published in EIR), also focusing on the role that youth must play in this international process. Continuing with the discussion, we reminded the students that at one point they were involved in collecting signatures for the building of the Mexico-Querétaro train, and that this could happen again. The students showed a lot of interest; they’re very open to the ideas and especially wanted to know why Mexico hasn’t joined the BRICS. So, the next step will be to encourage them to promote a new economic policy that would include Mexico joining the BRICS. [crr]
