EIRNS—Mongolia’s Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene announced in an interview with the South China Morning Post, published Jan. 24, that he is working to arrange a summit with Russia and China, so that the three neighbors can collaborate on new railway connections, economic corridors, and, as widely watched, a gas pipeline.

“Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with different diplomatic channels to organize the summit with Russia and China,” Oyun-Erdene said. He continued, saying that a China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor, proposed by China as part of the BRI to enhance regional infrastructure connectivity, and trade and investment flows, would be discussed at such a summit.

Mongolian authorities have mentioned that the country plans to build seven new dry ports, to expand trade with China, and make good use of its advantages in geography, lying between Russia and China.

Oyun-Erdene emphasized that Mongolia is “ready to connect” with the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline, which will pass through Mongolia to deliver 50 billion cubic meters of Russian gas annually to China. “We’re waiting for the Chinese and Russian sides to finalize their detailed study on the numbers and economic figures [of the Siberia 2 project].” He stressed, “I believe we can commence this project soon.” [ref]
